English education and the perpetuation of girls' inequality: parental investment and gender aspirations in Nepal
Artikel i vetenskaplig tidskrift, 2023

This article provides evidence that the recent trend to offer English-medium education risks setting back the progress made in girls» participation in Secondary Education in low and middle income countries. Drawing on evidence from a dual-medium secondary school in Nepal, the article finds that parents are more likely to send their sons than their daughters to a more expensive English-medium schooling. We consider the reasons for these parental choices as well as their implications for gender equality and the inclusion of girls in secondary education.
