Kapitel i bok, 2025
Wilmot’s Warehouse, a video game centred around sorting various items in a virtual storeroom, presents an interesting platform for investigating the intricate systemic interplay between semantic cognitive processes and language. This work delves into the categorization process that players engage in during gameplay and the connection of that process to language. Among the different processes involved in cognition, categorization serves as a strategy to progress in the game. The authors wanted to explore how players apply categorization and how this is related to the labels they stick to every iconic box Wilmot has to carry. I personally found the original assignment this chapter is based on to be one of the best assignments I’ve ever had in the course. It is a joy to be taught something completely new as part of a topic in which you’re the supposed expert. I am delighted to be able to bring Aya and Eleni’s work to your attention. Cognitive semanticists, cognitive scientists, linguists, and similar specialists may find this article inspires them to exploit the cognitive playground that is Wilmot’s Warehouse.
