Lower-Wing Flutter in Biplanes
Övrigt konferensbidrag, 2014

In this work we present an investigation into lower-wing aeroelastic flutter in biplanes, with particular emphasis on
the qualitative characteristics of this flutter. We show that the deficiencies of an existing reduced-order model based on Euler-
Bernoulli beam theory can be remedied with the addition of an asymmetric boundary condition; and we analyse the effect of
this boundary condition on the flutter characteristics of the biplane. We compare the effect of this boundary condition on
Euler-Bernoulli model with its effect on a new model based on Kirchhoff plate theory. This boundary condition affects the
flutter speed and frequency in a complex way that has ramifications for how biplane replicas are constructed today
