Rickard Frost

Rickard Frost is developing a nanocomposit membrane scaffold consisting of alternating layers of graphene oxide and silica colloids for water purification purposes. In such membranes the graphene oxide gives rigidity to the membrane and the intercalated silica colloids act as spacers between the graphene oxide sheets. By tuning the size of the silica colloids membranes with different pore sizes may be constructed, from a few to hundreds of nanometers. The main analytical techniques applied in the development of these membranes are quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) and nanoplasmonic sensing (NPS).
