Environmental footprint in Swedish industry - increased understanding and implementation
Research Project, 2022 – 2023

Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project is that business, authorities and the public sector in Sweden become aware of product-related policy development based on Environmental Footprints at the EU level. Furthermore, to make visible and clarify the consequences of proposed methodology choices in Environmental Footprints to better understand what effects an implementation can have in the industry. This contributes to the further development of Environmental Footprints and its implementation and strengthens the Swedish competitiveness.

Expected results and effects
1) National coordination for increased knowledge about Environmental Footprint and its effects during implementation, 2) Capacity for future regulations based on Environmental Footprint, and 3) Contribution to improved Environmental Footprint methodologies. The effects will be seen through an expanded network, increased collaboration and exchange between actors to manage Environmental Footprints. This leads to increased competitiveness with a better opportunity to reach Swedish consumption and production in line with national energy-, climate- and environmental goals

Planned approach and implementation
The project is managed by the Swedish Life Cycle Center and is strongly supported by industry, authorities, academia, research institutes and industry associations. All representants which will have a large part in the implementation of the project and within all work packages; 1) Stakeholder group for national coordination of Environmental Footprints, 2) Case studies and working groups, 3) Seminar, and 4) Project management, coordination and communication.
