Mutual Benefits - wise design for a safe and inclusive city for all
Research Project, 2021 – 2024

Purpose and goal
The overall purpose is that all groups of inhabitants in Gothenburg are included when the city is planned, grown and developed. The city of Gothenburg has different types of social housing for people with a complex problem of addiction, mental health problems and long history of exclusion. These citizens must also be included in the equality work and in urban planning. The second goal of the project is to develop and test the concept of “site collaboration” in Kallebäck. The project model will show that it is possible to prevent insecurity and increase access to public space for everyone.

Expected results and effects
The project´s expected results are that we will develop a working model for social sustainability in physical urban planning. That all residents in the city should have space for a safe and full life in the city. The project´s long-term objective is that by preventing target conflicts between the target group in the city´s housing, existing tenants, newcomers and entrepreneurs and be able to show a positive example that should be applicable in other urban areas. The effect will be a well-functioning city without which includes all Gothenburgers as full-fledged inhabitants of the city.
