ABC- Sweden: Advanced Building Control in Sweden: Resolving Challenges and Unlocking Opportunities
Research Project, 2025
– 2028
This project focuses on the digitalization of buildings, targeting some of the key challenges related to advanced
building control that are either in development or not yet fully addressed. The first objective is to formulate essential
principles for choosing control packages for building automation in Sweden that utilize optimal control methods.
The second objective is to find smart combinations of model predictive control (MPC) and data-driven models for
advanced building control. The third objective is to systematically use existing building simulation models, from
e.g. IDA-ICE, to develop preliminary MPC and data-driven optimization models as new services alongside detailed
building design. The primary goal of this project is to enhance our understanding that digitalization and automated
building controls are crucial components of contemporary renovation strategies. Additionally, it aims to encourage
informed investments in digital technologies.
