Factory SensAI - Data integration for AI in manufacturing
Research Project, 2025 – 2028

Advanced digitalization and AI integration will be essential to meet the growing challenges faced by the Swedish industries. The Factory SensAI project will address this need by enabling AI-driven solutions through connecting diverse data sources and building an ecosystem of interoperable AI models. The project will focus on high-impact industrial use cases. At SKF and Mölnlycke Health Care, Optimized Resetting will use AI to support operators, planners, and managers in executing efficient machine resets by analyzing real-time production data and documentation to recommend optimal sequences and timing, reducing setup time, minimizing scrap, and ensuring consistent quality. The project will extend this capability as a shared AI service for SMEs, hosted at Chalmers, thereby broadening access to advanced digital tools across industry. In parallel, the Operator Knowledge Assistant will provide frontline staff with a chatbot that delivers accurate, SOP-based answers—supporting consistent procedures, faster troubleshooting, and reduced downtime.

A fundamental principle of Factory SensAI is human-in-the-loop design — where AI augments, not replaces, human expertise, providing timely insights and feedback to build trust and relevance. By uniting expertise in manufacturing, AI, data integration, and systems architecture, Factory SensAI will foster a fast-learning environment where real needs drive scalable AI innovation—advancing Sweden and Europe in applied industrial AI.
