Flexible model for cell design and mass breakdown
Research Project, 2025 – 2026

In this project, an existing model structure for calculating lithium-ion battery (LIB) cell design and mass for the various cell components will be further developed. The first version was developed in a Chalmers-funded multidisciplinary project for life cycle analysis (LCA) on components in the electric powertrain. The model has since been used to estimate input data for LCA for LIBs in two additional projects. The model has been built to be more flexible than existing models that are currently used for LCA and cost estimation. Where the model is to estimate a general cell design based on the choice of material and cell format. The first version is based on a few teardown reports for battery cells for passenger cars, therefore funds are sought to be able to continue the development and be able to carry out more teardowns of more cell formats at Chalmers.
