Sharing Experiences to Navigate the Introduction of Trucks using Hydrogen (SENITH)
Research Project, 2025 – 2026

To contribute to reduced emissions from road transport, this project aims to gather, compare, and share insights regarding the rollout of hydrogen trucks between actors in Sweden and the USA (the latter with a focus on California). By sharing experiences and perspectives, the project aims to bring together actors to find solutions to common problems between the two regions, in order to lower barriers to a market introduction of hydrogen-powered trucks.

The project is expected to facilitate the planning of hydrogen infrastructure, such as filling stations, and provide insights into which use cases may be best suited for hydrogen trucks during the first stages of market development. It is expected to provide an understanding of what policy instruments may be needed. By sharing each other´s experiences, the project is also expected to result in an overview of tips and advice that will be useful in further market development for these vehicles.

The project will begin with interviews of actors in both Sweden and the US, from public agencies, research, hydrogen production, hydrogen filling station operators, truck manufacturers, and logistics. These will then be invited to workshops to discuss the results. After this first workshop, supplementary interviews will be conducted, which will be followed by another workshop. In parallel, the group is also working on modeling suitable locations for hydrogen filling stations.
