Joel Löfving

Doctoral Student at Maritime Studies

Joels work focuses on energy and environmental systems analysis of hydrogen for heavy duty transportation in Europe, including aviation, shipping and heavy duty trucks. His main focus is on modeling of demand as well as infrastructure requirements for production and distribution in Europe. All with the aim to find the best solutions from a systems perspective, and faciliate an understanding of the preferable pathways for innovators, industry actors and policymakers.

Apart from his work at Chalmers, Joel is engaged as a Research Affiliate at Berkeley Lab, where he contributes in similar research projects concerning policymaking in California and the US. He is also involved in curriculum development at California State University Los Angeles, for courses targeted at educating the next generation hydrogen technology workforce.

Joel has a bachelor's degree in Automation and Mechatronics engineering, and a master's degree in Industrial Ecology. Before starting his PhD, he was working for two years as a consultant building sustainability assessment platforms for large companies in Sweden.
