Centre for Additive Manufacture - Metal (CAM2)
Research Project, 2017 – 2027

Purpose and goal: The goal of the centre to enable wider industrial implementation of the additive manufacturing (AM) through sustainable powder material solutions and innovations in powder-based metal AM was reached for number of materials and applications. In total, 15 novel powder AM materials were developed and number of them have already been introduced on the market, strengthening the leading position of national powder producers. Significant strengthening of research partners was demonstrated by extensive research output and increased attractiveness for public and industrial funding.

Expected results and effects: During last 5 years, CAM2 has crystallized into an internationally recognized centre in powder-based metal AM, with internationally leading position in metal powder development for the technology itself with related processes and post-processing. With critical mass of more than 30 industrial and academic partners and 25 PhD students involved, number of powder-based materials and AM processing routes have been developed for range of applications, summarized in number of patents and more than 130 scientific publications.

Approach and implementation: Owing to the position in metal powder research, material characterization and simulation by the research groups involved, and strong industrial consortia, covering of the whole AM manufacturing chain, CAM2 has established a strong base for material and process development for powder-based metal AM. This set-up has allowed CAM2 to have a critical mass resulting in high scientific and industrial output and increased attractiveness. The knowledge, skills and methodologies provide a platform for applied research to further develop and strengthen position of AM in Sweden. Year 6-10 of CAM2 continues in a new decision/project number,Vinnova dnr 2022-03076
