Optimization and control of hybrid electric vehicles

This project aims at investigating the overall, coordinated optimization of sizing and control of new hybrid concepts that are based on engines optimized for the use in a hybrid powertrain. The control system is – in addition to the choice of system configuration and design of system components – of great importance for the ultimate system performance (e.g. fuel efficiency and emissions). It is therefore of great value to be able to study the powertrain design and operation simultaneously and relate that to performance requirements and system cost. Doing this is a prerequisite for defining very energy efficient hybrid powertrains, which are both attractive and cost effective for the vehicle buyers.
