Modeling of the influence of chemical reactions and heat release on turbulence and turbulent scalar transport
Research Project, 2013 – 2015

Within the framework of the ongoing project, a new promising approach to modeling premixed and stratified turbulent combustion was developed and validated from the basic viewpoint. The main goal of the second stage of the project is to apply the approach to multidimensional numerical simulations of stratified turbulent combustion in a GDI engine and to exploit the potential of the approach to substantially improve predictive capabilities of combustion models used by automotive and gas turbine industry, especially as far as emissions from internal combustion engines are concerned. The developed model will be implemented into OpenFOAM library, which then will be applied to a GDI engine in close collaboration with the activities of CERC and its industrial members in experimentally and numerically investigating GDI engines.
