The project aims to develop stable oxygen carrier particles for converting pressure-swing adsorption off gas making it possible to integrate steam reforming with the CO2-capture technology chemical-looping combustion (CLC). Doing so would achieve hydrogen production from natural gas, possibly without emission of NOx, with inherent CO2-capture and with less thermal stress on the reforming tubes. Combined oxygen carriers for the special conditions required in H2 production with steam reforming will be developed and tested in small fluidized bed units. The metal oxide systems Cu/Fe, Ni/Mn and Si/Mn/Ti are of special interest and will be the first target of investigation. The proposed technology could constitute as a bridging technology towards the day when truly renewable processes for H2 generation becomes commercially feasible, and in further development steps also be adapted to the use of biomass as feedstock.
