Docent at Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Energy and Material, Environmental Inorganic Chemistry

Dr. Henrik Leion is Associate Professor at the division for Chemistry and Biochemistry in the field of Chemical-looping combustion (CLC) and gasification. Henriks research focus is development of new oxygen carriers and investigation of the chemical reactions of fuel and oxygen carriers in CLC and gasification.CLC is a technique to separate out carbon dioxide during combustion. A metal oxide is used as oxygen carrier and is circulated between two reactors, taking up oxygen in one reactor and releasing it to the fuel in the other, creating a pure stream of carbon dioxide from the fuel reactor. In gasification the oxygen carriers can be used convert the tars, or other species, or as a catalyst for the gasification reaction. Henrik is currently the supervisor for five PhD students.
