Advanced visualization of voltage stability limit and system protection based on real-time measurement
Research Project, 2017
– 2021
The goal of this project is to develop a prototype of an integrated visualization and system-protection tool for voltage stability of the transmission system which would enable the transmission system operator to securely reduce the transmission system reliability margin by up to 25%. Advanced methods for fast real-time assessment and visualization of voltage stability limits, and for determining optimal control actions of system protection schemes against voltage collapses will be developed. Supported by SvK and RISE, the methods will be implemented and validated, both in the lab-scale and using real system measurement. After completion of the project, SvK will, as a first step in the exploitation plan, implement the developed methods for testing and will eventually develop them into a new tool for early warning of voltage instability and system protection in the future for the control center. The new tool will be essential to ensure a secure operation of a future power system.
