IEA OES Task 10 - Wave Energy Modeling Verifications and Validation
Research Project, 2017
– 2019
The proposed project is about Swedish participation in the IAE OES annex on benchmarking of hydrodynamic models for wave energy. In Sweden the research in hydrodynamics for wave energy is geared towards nonlinear models. In this proposal we suggest to include into the benchmarking study three different hydrodynamic software that is used in research/development projects in Sweden. The software are: (i) Shipflow motion, a commercial panel method from potential flow simulations; (ii) FEniCs, an open-source finite element CFD programme, and (iii) ANSYS-FLUENT, a commercial finite volume CFD programme. These nonlinear codes will provide an interesting adding to the majority of the other codes, which can be expected to be mostly of linear radiation/diffraction type. The overall aim is to establish best practice recommendations for simulations and identify techniques that improve the estimation of energy capture, wavel loads and LCOE.
