Modelling of properties and damage in wheel and rail materials (CHARMEC MU30)
Research Project, 2013
– 2021
This senior research project is a complement to the new doctoral projects MU35 and MU36 dealing with characterization of material behaviour. The tasks are to continue developing collaborations with experts on advanced materials characterization as well as material modelling, to handle compilation of results for Shift2Rail, and to apply for additional funding regarding specialized studies that will be of benefit for CHARMEC. The overall aim is to achieve higher quality of the knowledge chain starting from designing tests to characterize mechanical material behaviour relevant for wheel and rail performance, all the way to help interpreting results for robust implementation into material models useful for predictions of cyclic deformation, damage and fatigue. In a similar way, the present project MU30 has supported the earlier doctoral projects MU28 and MU29, now finalized.
