Enabling Safer Batteries via Click-Chemistry Created Fluorine-Free Electrolytes
Research Project, 2020 – 2023

Safe electrolytes compatible with electrode materials of next generation batteries remain a battery research challenge. This project will foremost develop novel materials: fluorine-free (liquid) alkali metal salts (Li/Na/K) and ionic liquids. The resulting electrolytes are expected to be non-flammable, liquid at “low” temperature, relatively low cost and energy smart produced due to starting materials and synthesis routes, thermally and electrochemically stable. The project team has both unique and complementary expertise enabling us to reach these challenging goals.
