The Crossroads of AI & Innovation Management
Research Project, 2020 – 2021

Purpose and goal: The purpose is to contribute to an increased understanding of how the areas of AI & IM relate to, and influence, each other. The goal is to contribute to a discussion where policymakers and intermediary organizations can identify potential areas for increased support, for practitioners to identify areas that can contribute to an increased value creation from AI-related innovation projects, and for researchers to identify areas for future research and innovation management theory development. Expected results and effects: The immediate result is a knowledge contribution and a basis for discussion where the effect is primarily expected to contribute to an increased understanding of the crossroads of AI & IM. An increased understanding of the obstacles and enablers that research and practitioners need to take into account when handling AI-related innovation, such as the use of established innovation management practice, as well as the need for theory and practice development. Approach and implementation: Explorative in-depth interviews will be used to collect empirical data about challenges and enablers related to different types of AI-related innovation projects. These challenges and enablers will be analysed and described in relation to locus of innovativeness and degree of innovativeness. The result will be discussed and made available through a written report, academic publications and open seminars.
