Enzymes for selective decomposition of woody biomass
Research Project, 2014 – 2019

In the project, enzyme activities that selectively decouple and decompose wood polymers were investigated and characterized, focusing on the underutilized hemicellulose fractions. To understand the complex lignocellulose structure and how enzymes act on it, a range of different detection techniques (including NMR, chromatography and spectrophotometry) were applied using both native biomass, extracted wood polymers and synthetic model substrates.

Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC) is a research center funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation with a focus on new materials from trees. It is a multidisciplinary collaboration between Chalmers, KTH and Linköping University striving for scientific excellence. The mission is to create knowledge and build competence that can form the basis for an innovative future value creation from forest raw material.
