Production of warmwater for hygien purposes from bathroom graywater
Research Project, 2019

The purpose and the objective of the project was to raise the problem of recovering greywater for different purposes from an approval perspective. We also wanted to create a work plan on how this work is to be conducted in future. The results have been very positive. We have in common with the SIS, RISE and Chalmers University presented a plan on how we will, together with the authorities and industry, cooperate to 1) Improving the understanding of the problem and the 2) how such a strategic work should be carried out.

The SIS has offered to be the organization where this work should be coordinated under. This opens up great opportunities to involve all in a neutral environment, whether financial or other interests. The project has given us a deep understanding of the fact that there is a lack of knowledge, but a great deal of interest to share in this work from all relevant authorities and companies. There is a genuine interest from the authorities and industry in Sweden to open up the rules in a controlled way and become the world leader in gray/waste water recycling in cities.

Through meetings primarily web-based, participants have worked with three tasks. Workshop agreement, articles to increase interest for decision-makers and planned the road ahead. The group has had difficulties to define usage areas and quality requirements. This in itself give rise to a decision on legislative authority on which route to take. There are both advantages and disadvantages to reformulate and create new rules round what PBL is to be considered as other water. In this we see a major source of innovation and the development of synergies in sustainability and water supply.
