Modeling and discretization errors in hyperelasto-(visco-)plasticity with a view to hierarchical modeling
Journal article, 2004

In this paper we evaluate the combined model and discretization errors for a class of hyperelastic-(visco-)plastic models. The aim is to control the total accuracy of the computation at the analysis of a structural component. It is possible to predict the total error using the well-established strategy of duality arguments. Based on the a posteriori error computation, we show how the model and the discretization can be selected adaptively for a simple example, whereby the purpose is to obtain a proper balance between the two types of error while keeping the total error within a certain predefined tolerance.
