Identifierade brister i spårbarheten hos forskningsdatapubliceringar i Sverige
Other - Bristanalys i broschyrformat, 2026

Formal publication of research data is a central component of the transition to open science, regardless of whether it takes the form of open data or data publications with access restrictions. Sweden has been tasked with transitioning to open science practices with 2026 as a set deadline. Since 2022, Swedish governmental agencies, including research performing organisations, are also required by law to list and publish information about all data that is published.

The question about what research data is actually published in Sweden is difficult to answer – partly because there is a lack of effective methods for tracking and following up on such publications.

Follow-up is made more difficult by, among other things, shortcomings in the specified metadata for organisational affiliations and content classification. It is also complicated by differences in research output reporting, locally as well as nationally.

To achieve better traceability of research data publications, improvements are required in national coordination efforts and technical infrastructures as well as in incentives.

We identify some of the most significant obstacles and point out possible ways forward.
