Biological nitrogen removal is implemented in Swedish wastewater treatment
plants, often using biofilm processes for nitrification. Using DNA based
methods we analyzed population dynamics and activity of nitrifying biofilms,
and have tested different running strategies in a pilot plant with controlled
ammonium concentrations.
