Ultra-wideband Circularly Polarized Planar Array Antenna Using Single-Arm-Spiral Elements and Dielectric-based IMGW
Paper in proceeding, 2019

An ultra-wideband circularly polarized (CP) planar array antenna is proposed in this paper. Using the concept of tightly coupled array antenna, the single-arm spiral element obtains good impedance matching and axial ratio (AR) characteristics in an ultra-wide frequency range. The new single-arm spiral element has a single-arm feeding structure which can be easily connected with the feeding network throughout a via. The feeding network is achieved by using dielectric-based inverted microstrip gap waveguide (IMGW) technology. An 8 × 8 CP planar array is designed. The simulated results show that the proposed array achieves a relative impedance bandwidth of 52.8% from 17.87 to 30.7 GHz and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 49.2% from 18.6 to 30.75 GHz.
