Transition to electric Public Transit systems (e-PT): Infrastructure planning, transit design and operations, and individualized battery management
Forskningsprojekt, 2021
– 2022
Despite the skeptics of electrification of private cars, it is widely recognized that the pros of electric public transit systems largely outweigh their cons. In this research, we establish an interdisciplinary consortium consisting of top-tier researchers from infrastructure engineering, electrical engineering, vehicle engineering, and transport management to collectively deal with these unsettled issues by considering an integrated system of systems. We endeavor to develop a complete picture of opportunities and challenges, and a technical pathway of transformation in the foreseeable electrification/connectivity of future transit systems that integrates the emerging vehicular, computing and communication technologies, as well as policies and social perspectives (e.g. drive shame), aiming at improving the energy utilization and users’ wellbeing.
The project is sponsored by AoA Energy Foundation and Swedish Energy Agency for two years from 1 Jan 2021 to 31 Dec 2022. The total budget for this project is 3.8 million SEK.
The project is in collaboration with Dr Ying Yang in Australian Catholic University, as a Co-PI, who is leading the Work Package 5 - social wellbeing. The budget for Work Package 5 is 1 million SEK.
