Precisionsprevention av kardiometabola sjukdomar genom individualiserad kost utifrån signaturer av metabolitbiomarkörer
Forskningsprojekt, 2023
– 2025
Many healthy diets have similar positive effects on risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases (CMD). It is yet unclear to what extent such effects are mediated by similar metabolic alterations mirrored by robust and specific blood metabolome profiles that may represent suitable biomarkers to identify to what degree individuals would respond to dietary change to reduce the risk of CMD. We will identify novel blood-based metabolite biomarker signatures reflecting the core common aspects of healthy dietary patterns; Prospectively investigate their impact on atherosclerosis, prediabetes and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease using samples/data collected repeatedly >25 y before OGTTs, CT-assessments of coronary arteries & the liver conducted in subjects recruited to SCAPIS-Umeå. HEMP will also be investigated in relation to incident T2D and coronary artery disease in an independent cohort. Key foods to target the HEMP associated with lower CMD risk will be identified. Finally, we will proof the concept that identified key foods will increase the HEMP score when intervening prediabetic individuals and that such alteration is paralleled by substantially improved CMD risk factors (cross-over). The project will strengthen the evidence for dietary guidelines and HEMP biomarkers may be translated into clinically applicable monitoring tools that facilitate actionable precision nutrition strategies towards individuals at risk with the greatest expected CMD-risk reduction potential.
