DT6GV: Towards Intelligent and Safe Urban Transport System: Where Digital Twining and 6G Vehicular Communications Meet
Forskningsprojekt, 2024 – 2025

Project 6GDTV brings two exciting research areas into secure and safe urban transport system: 6G intelligent wireless communications and digital twining (DT).

The vision of the Transport Area of Advance/SFO Transport is: “Sustainable, safe, efficient and inclusive transport systems” and challenges identified are “increasing efficiency in transport and logistics, increasing transport safety and achieving a fossil-free transport system”. We target the vision and the identified challenges with sustainability, safety and efficiency in transport systems.

Targeting on the core problem of integrating 6G and DT under urban vehicular communication networks, we have designed the project with 3 dedicated and tightly connected work packages. The project is expected to demonstrate the effectiveness of pro-active communication algorithms under the help of DT with 3D city modeling and real-time monitoring capabilities. The results of the project aim to benefit intended users such as city planners, communication operators, and transport coordinators in their work on future secure and safe urban transport systems.

The project will combine the strength of the expertise from E2, ACE and MV departments at Chalmers. E2 researchers have good knowledges on communication systems and optimizations. MV has strong experience in development of DT platforms. Finally, the experience of ACE department on using DT in urban environment will be very useful, since there are several similarities in the problem setup. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt on converging 6G communications, DT, and urban vehicular networks in a multi-disciplinary research project.
