Impact of Aerosols on the Transport of Ruthenium in the primary circuit of nuclear power plant
Forskningsprojekt, 2014
– 2015
he proposed work is a continuation of previous experiments on the release and transport of ruthenium. The experiments have been carried out at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and at Chalmers University of Technology. At VTT it was observed that the fraction of gaseous Ru transported through the circuit was significantly higher than expected by thermodynamic equilibrium calculations. Also, previous studies have shown that gaseous RuO4 reacts readily with different surfaces. Behaviour of ruthenium tetroxide and iodine species was investigated at Chalmers previously. A significant chemical interaction between ruthenium and iodine was observed, leading both to release of gaseous iodine and increased trapping of ruthenium on the surfaces. The proposed activity merges these individual research projects to create added value.
