Quantifying the emission rate of athmospheric pollutants released by volcanoes: Pre- and syn-eruptive volcanic gas monitoring with high-latitude DOAS remote sensors
Forskningsprojekt, 2016
– 2018
The overall goal of the project is to provide measurements of SO2 emission to the atmosphere from volcanoes in Iceland and Jan Mayen by developing and implementing the DOAS technique on several key locations. The project will strengthen the collaboration between IMO, CUT and UiB and provide vital information for further air quality and climate studies. Another goal is to disseminate the data and knowledge gained widely.
The results of the project will benefit the general public by providing essential information to scientists and authorities related to the assessment of volcanic activity and the magnitude and transport of volcanic pollutants. This information is necessary to quantify the volcanic impact on air quality, health, environment, climate and air traffic.
