CRISPRi technology, for developing robust industrial yeast strains
Forskningsprojekt, 2018
–
In this project, we will use the cutting-edge CRISPRi technology, for developing robust industrial yeast strains for the production of bioethanol and other biofuels- and chemicals. Using the CRISPRi
technology we will elucidate the stress responses of yeast. This knowledge can be used for engineering novel production strains. Robust, stress-tolerant yeast for the cost-effective production
of renewable energy carriers are needed for reaching Sweden’s targets for a fossil-free fleet by 2030. Today, the main challenge for making biofuels and chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass, made
from residues from agriculture and forestry, is the presence of inhibitors that are toxic for the cells and cause severe stress that lower the productivity.
