The Next Generation Organic Photovoltaics with Fullerene Free
Forskningsprojekt, 2017 – 2020

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) is a very promising technique to convert sunlight into electricity directly and provide endless and green electricity. The traditional OPVs are based fullerenes as acceptor, which have drawbacks such as low stability, high cost and low contribution to light harvesting. In this project, we are aiming to develop new n-type materials to replace fullerenes and boost the development of OPVs. Donor and acceptor materials with well-matched properties will be selected and photovoltaic performance well beyond the state of the art can be expected. Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, Korea University and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology are well known in the field of non-fullerene OPVs. The complementary competence and facility will allow us to solve the problems together and generate synergistic effects. Bilateral workshops will be organized every year to disseminate the outcome of this project and increase the visibility of our collaboration. Manpower exchange will be implemented to promote the quality of higher education. Senior researchers will visit each other and share experience in higher education. Double degree program on both master and PhD levels will be proposed between Chalmers and the two Korea universities as a long term goal of this project.
