Sustainable recovery of biomass from seafood processing water
Forskningsprojekt, 2017 – 2019

It is the aim of the project to recover high-value compounds/biomass such as proteins and omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids from seafood processing waters using different separation techniques and to incorporate the dried biomass as flavor enhancer and/or food ingredients.

It is anticipated to i) potentially identify cost-effective, eco-friendly and promising techniques for a better recovery of high-value compounds from seafood process waters and ii) to facilitate potential application(s) of such recovered compounds as a value-add to relative food industry sectors.

The project is designed to first screen and/or test different techniques currently available to maximize the recovery yield of high-value compounds. The compositional analyses data will serve as a basic platform to search for potential applications of the biomass in relative food industry sectors.
