Module size investigation on a 150 kW charger for electric vehicles
Paper i proceeding, 2019
When charging two cars at the same time, two modules is very much better than just one and with two modules the total charging time is almost the same as with five modules. An example case with different sized cars is charged very much faster with two modules and almost the same as with five modules compared to a case with only one charging outlet and one big module.
A power level of 17-20 kW or 30-40 kW could be suitable, one or two parallell SiC power electronic devices with the size TO147 in each position is enough to handle the power level. Standard ferrite components can be used and at this power level the cost of control circuits are quite small compared to the power electronic parts.
A high voltage module based on MMC and DAB is investigated concerning efficiency and cost. With this topology the fast charger could be directly connected to the medium voltage grid (appr. 10 kV) and a 50 Hz transformer can be avoided. The module is compared to to 400 V’s modules.
