Call for Critical and Speculative Design in Human-Computer Co-creativity: An Overview Study
Paper i proceeding, 2023

The recent boom of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has demonstrated their potential to impact human-computer interaction (HCI) in general and humancomputer co-creativity in particular. Therefore, we want to provide a systematic literature overview of computational cocreativity research so far. In total, 916 articles from Scopus and Web of Science databases were pulled. Bibliometric analysis of their abstracts and a Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling on their full text was conducted to reveal what is covered in the previous academic discussions on human-computer co-creativity. The results of these analyses demonstrate that current research mostly focuses on technology, overlooking the role of design. Accordingly, we call for more design-oriented research to develop a more comprehensive understanding of human-computer co-creativity, especially from critical and speculative design perspectives.
