A 3D ultimate limit state surface for intact and collision-damaged ship hulls
Kapitel i bok, 2021

The paper presents a methodology that has been developed for the simulation and analysis of a ship’s ultimate limit state (ULS) condition. The methodology can be applied to assess a ship’s ULS for asbuilt and corroded conditions, for intact and collision-damaged ship hull. The results from an ULS assessment are presented as a 3D ULS surface which clearly shows which part of the ship that is the weakest. With this approach, the 3D ULS surface can be related to ship design loads for risk assessment. Results are presented for an intact and a damaged oil tanker for as-built and corroded structural conditions, and various sea states, to demonstrate the features of the approach.
