Exploring resilience-building capabilities of supply chain planning

Supply chains need to develop resilience to overcome disruptions. Various capabilities for resilience have been identified in literature but not many highlight the important role of supply chain planning (SCP). This paper explores the role of SCP in building resilience. To study this, a multiple case study of four manufacturing companies was conducted, focusing on disruptions they faced in the last two years. The analysis explores how the routine and reactive planning processes contribute to various phases of disruptions through various capabilities. The interplay between these activities is identified as required to overcome disruptions and build resilience with SCP.
