PARTICULARIZATION: A KEY ISSUE IN DESIGN SCIENCE RESEARCH
Övrigt konferensbidrag, 2025

Design Science Research (DSR) aims to generate knowledge that simultaneously advances theoretical frameworks and addresses real-world challenges. To achieve this, DSR is grounded in systematic interventions within real-world contexts. While DSR interventions provides rare opportunities for generating new knowledge based on the experimentation in real world contexts, it is also associated with methodological challenges. In this paper, the concept of particularization is introduced as a `conceptual tool’ for managing the multidimensionality of contextualize DSR interventions and thereby increasing transferability. We define particularisation as the process of adapting and embedding a general concept, model, or artifact within a specific organizational setting. An example of particularization considerations in a DSR project in two companies is presented as illustration.
