Controller Synthesis Unified by Mu-Calculus
Paper i proceeding, 2026

A unified formulation of controller synthesis for discrete event systems is presented, where both concepts from supervisory control, reactive systems, and game theory are joined in a common framework. It is based on transition systems, including both state and transition labels. An extended version of the temporal logic CTL*, which is strictly defined by μ-calculus, makes it possible to define both nonblocking, controllability, nondeterminism, and games in a unified way. It is also shown how modular temporal logic specifications can be introduced as an attractive alternative to traditional Büchi automata. This opens up for modular and incremental state-space reduction and efficient design of multi-agent systems.
