Influence of Short Time Disturbances on PD Characteristics in Hairpin Motor Insulation
Paper i proceeding, 2026

Characterization of the partial discharge stress level in high voltage insulation is important to ensure system reliability when it is exposed to complex transient waveforms. This work presents a novel method to elaborate on the electrical stress appearing in different motor insulation materials when subjected to disturbed PWM like waveforms. PD activity is analyzed for different voltage levels and different PRPD patterns are compared. The results show that intermittently occurring overstress can result in different PD exposure dependent on the insulation material employed.
