Björn Åkerman

Professor Emeritus at Chemistry and Biochemistry

The research of the Åkerman group focuses on the behaviour of DNA and proteins in confining environments. Individual DNA molecules are subjected to mechanical and electric forces in order to understand basic principles for their biological function and analytical separation. Proteins are immobilized in mesoporous particles which are used to recycle enzymes exploited to catalyze biotechnical reactions. In both cases the spectroscopic expertise of the research group is used in close collaboration with surface chemists and molecular biologists at Chalmers.
