Maria de Oliveira Laurin

Doctoral Student at Transport, Energy and Environment

Maria de Oliveira Laurin's research lies within the field of energy systems analysis, with a focus on future fuels for the transport sector. It examines the transition to a low-carbon transport system across multiple spatial scales - global, continental, national, regional, and municipal. The core of this work combines energy systems modeling with stakeholder participation at different levels. In doing so, it explores how socio-geographical and socio-economic factors shape the low-carbon transition of various transport segments and influence defossilization strategies across spatial contexts. The research further analyzes cross-sectoral synergies and trade-offs among competing non-fossil energy carriers, as well as the critical interlinkages between achieving near-term local and national objectives and aligning these with long-term global CO₂ mitigation targets.
