Oana Geman

Lecturer at Data Science and AI 2

I have joined Chalmers as a Tekniklektor in the Data Science and AI division on the first of January 2025. Previously, I was a key account manager at GlaxoSmithKline and Merck Sharp & Dohme Romania and an Associate Professor at the University of Suceava, Romania (2024), with a Habilitation in Electronics, Telecommunication and Information Technologies (since 2018). I am a medical bioengineer with a Ph.D. in electronics and telecommunications, with a postdoc in computer science, with specializations in Data Science and Machine Learning, and a senior member of IEEE. Throughout my academic journey, I have focused on pushing the boundaries of Machine Learning algorithms and techniques, particularly in the areas of Body Sensor Network Acquisition, Deep Learning (DL), and Biomedical Signal Processing. I have designed expert systems for the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease, using nonlinear analysis techniques and fuzzy expert systems. These systems integrate data from multiple sources, including medical literature, expert knowledge, and patient data (tremor, speech, gait, EEG), for Neurological Disorders screening and to provide personalized treatment plans for patients. This experience has provided me with a solid foundation in biomedical data collection, sensor technology, system modelling and the AI tools that I am eager to apply and expand upon in the context of developing dynamic and knowledge-driven intelligent models for tracking the health status and quality of life of adults and children with complex conditions (for ex. Dementia, Alzheimer, Parkinson’s Disease and/or ADHD, Autism).

By choosing Gothenburg and Chalmers, I have the unique opportunity to immerse myself in dynamic academic and cultural settings that foster innovation, champion sustainability and diversity, and support professional growth in education, teaching, innovation and research.
