I currently work on quantum field theory under the influence of external conditions, in particular QED in background fields, as applied to laser-matter interactions.Intense lasers allow us to test properties of the quantum vacuum (via e.g. vacuum birefringence), search for particles beyond the standard model (via light-shining-through-walls experiments) and to probe nonperturbative physics through pair production.I also have interests in lightfront quantisation, non-perturbative properties of gauge theories (in particular Gribov copies), and the application of functional and Schrödinger-picture methods in field theory.
