Timofey works with simulating air-lubricated ship hulls, in particular, those using an internal air cavity to that end. The goal is to understand the fluid dynamical mechanisms governing the flow in the cavity and develop CFD techniques for accurately predicting the effectiveness of the lubrication for a given cavity design. Timofey’s other research interest is scale-resolving turbulence modelling methods, in particular wall-modelled LES.
