Digital quality assurance for sustainable industry
Research Project, 2021 – 2024

Purpose and goal:
The proposed project aims to realize a digital quality assurance process that can be scaled up and enable an efficient, sustainable and competitive global production. The project goal is mainly streamlining, where expected gains are; increased ability to balance quality against cost, greatly reduced time required for individual activities, reduced number of costly iterations and improvement loops between OEMs and global / local suppliers, increased concept robustness, increased traceability, reduced number of rejections and thus reduced total material consumption.

Expected results and effects:
The project is expected to contribute to 1) Climate-neutral and circular production through increased digitalisation and automation of the geometry assurance process, reduced transportation and travel and reduction of test series 2) Resource efficient value chains with reduced variation in final product, reduced lead times in geometry assurance chain and reducd need for fixtures 3) Increased competitiveness for Swedish OEM / SME through an efficient digital process 4) Socially sustainable and attractive industry where demanding physical work has been automated and digitized

Planned approach and implementation:
The project is conducted in six work packages (AP). Chalmers is responsible for the digital requirements (AP1) and evaluation (AP4). Volvo Cars is responsible for freeform fixture and measurement (AP2), Saab Aeronautics is responsible for the configurable measurement cell (AP3). FCC and IPS provide technologies for path planning and optimization. Polyworks Scandinavia provides software for inspection preparation and analysis. RD&T Technology and LK Scandinavia provide software and hardware and are responsible for the digital demonstrators (AP5) and business models (AP6).
