Prospects for renewable marine fuels
Research Project, 2016 – 2017

In order to reduce the environmental and climate impact of shipping, in the short and long term, the introduction of alternative fuels is required. There is a need for more knowledge on alternative marine fuels. The overall aim of the project is to assess the role of renewable fuels in the shipping sector and to contribute with scientifically based decision support for the choice of renewable fuels to industry, policy makers and other actors. The project includes (i) a synthesis of knowledge on alternative marine fuels, (ii) an assessment of factors influencing the choice of marine fuel, (iii) a multi-criteria analysis of selected alternative marine fuels, and (iv) dissemination of knowledge
through involvement of actors linked to shipping, scientific publication and international research collaboration.
