Gap waveguide based 1-D steerable beam antenna concept for millimeter-wave 5G application
Paper in proceeding, 2018

With the demanding system requirements for the fifth generation (5G) wireless communications and the severe spectrum shortage at conventional cellular frequencies, multibeam and beam scanning antenna systems operating in the millimeter-wave frequency bands have attracted a lot of attention and has initiated lot of research activities. In this work, ridge gap waveguide based 1-D scanning antenna array has been proposed. The basic antenna concept is based on several columns of series fed slot array elements where each column of slot array is integrated with TX/Rx module. The antenna is designed at 60GHz band. The simulated impedance bandwidth of a single column of series fed slots is found to be 13% for -10dB S11 level within the band 58-65GHz. Also, a microstrip to ridge gap waveguide transition has been designed to integrate the TX-RX module with the array. The simulated S11 for the proposed transition is found to be lower than -15dB within the band of interest.
